Sempreverdi
SempreVerdi is a programme designed to promote the reading of picture books among older people.
Scientific evidence shows that reading plays a fundamental role in intellectual, emotional and relational well-being later in life, with significant benefits throughout the ageing process.
The Programme identifies the picture book as a tool that facilitates reading, relationships and care, helping to counter isolation and the cognitive decline often associated with advancing age.
The SempreVerdi Programme is intended for all organisations and settings that, in various ways, work with older people or simply recognise active ageing as a value to be pursued, such as residential care facilities, day centres, voluntary organisations, libraries and bookshops.

Although picture books are commonly associated with childhood, they are also a valuable and versatile resource for older people. Their narrative language, combining words and images, naturally responds to the cognitive and emotional needs of elderly readers.
We have developed a bibliography as a practical and accessible tool capable of enhancing the value of picture books as a means of reading, connection and care later in life.
Each title has been carefully selected, taking into account not only its narrative and visual quality, but also its potential in relational and cognitive contexts.
The selected picture books are divided into five categories. To discover them and view the bibliography, you can download the PDF:
