Reading and Illustration from Birth to Community
“Seeds of Stories” is a project that places reading and visual storytelling at the heart of relationships, growth and well-being throughout every stage of life: from pregnancy to old age.
Through family events, interactive readings, workshops and training sessions, the picture book becomes a shared language capable of speaking to every generation. A language that brings people together, creates connections and opens up spaces where people, stories and experiences can meet.
The project strengthens the library’s role as a cultural hub and a community gathering place: a vibrant, accessible and welcoming space where reading becomes an opportunity for active participation and collective growth.
The Journey
“Seeds of Stories” takes people on a journey through the different stages of life, promoting:
- shared reading from the earliest months of life;
- support for families as they discover children’s books;
- the promotion of picture-book culture;
- active participation in library life;
- new ways of using visual storytelling with adults and older people as well.

Embraces Through the Voice – an early-reading programme
A series of three sessions for expectant parents and families with babies in their first year of life.
An experience combining theory and practice to explore the value of voice, rhythm and shared reading as forms of connection and care.
Led by Milena Pizzo, a children’s literature specialist.
7 July at 5:30 p.m.
Little Stories for Little Explorers – Outdoor Interactive Reading
In the library garden, an event designed for very young children, combining stories, nature and sensory activities.
A summer experience of discovery and play in dialogue with the natural surroundings.
For children aged 18–36 months.
Led by La Volpe Volante.

Short Literature: Great Stories in Just a Few Pages
An event exploring the power of picture books and short narratives: essential stories capable of leaving a deep impression in just a few pages.
For children aged 11–14.
Led by Pel di carota.
October
The Illustrated Other – Training Session
A session for cultural professionals, educators and members of the public, exploring the use of picture books and reading aloud in adulthood and later life. Storytelling as a tool for connection, memory and cognitive stimulation.
Led by Anna Cascone and Valentina Mai.
November
Where Has the Sky Gone? – Reading and Workshop with Illustrator Marianna Balducci
A workshop for primary schools introducing children to the language of illustration and the creation of picture books.
An opportunity to explore the creative process and discover how visual stories come to life.
Led by Autori in città.
December
Stories Under the Tree: Santa’s Elf
One of Santa’s elves is busy dealing with letters, presents and reindeer training.
With picture-book readings, puppets and juggling, this event for the whole family explores light-heartedness and humour, as well as care, generosity and welcome.
Recommended for ages 3 and up.
Led by Sara Celeghin and Teatro Invisibile.
